This coming Friday, 31st October, is, yes, you guessed it,
Samhain.
And just in case you didn’t know,
Samhain is a Celtic festival dating back 2,000 years.
Samhain marked the end of the harvest period and the beginning of winter, which the Celts associated with death and darkness.
They also believed that on this night, the boundary between the living and the dead blurred, and spirits could roam the earth.
To ward off evil spirits, people lit bonfires and wore costumes and masks to disguise themselves from wandering ghosts.
On Friday, young children across the Western world will don their disguises, too.
Their mission: To seek sweets and treats from houses in their neighbourhoods.
In advance of this, I’ll do my bit to boost the economy by buying lots of sweets and chocolates.
Back to the real world.
I’d like to highlight something we should be scared of, and that’s,
Not making a will.
Without a will, you increase the risk of leaving behind a real-life horror story when you no longer walk the earth.
I know because I’ve seen it happen, and sadly, all too often.
Disputes and bitterness in families are the outcomes.
To avoid this and ensure that the people you care about get what you want them to have, write a will now.
If you have a will, but it was written some years back, check that it still meets your wishes.
I can help you make a will and plan the most tax-efficient way to leave your legacy.
