About Graham Martin

My name is Graham Martin and I was born in 1962 and grew up in Potters Bar, attending Chancellors School where I did my A Levels and was appointed Deputy Head Boy. Sailing with my Dad from an early age I joined 1^st Little Heath & Potters Bar Cubs and then the Sea Scouts which I enjoyed immensely.

Leaving school at 18 and after joining Barings Bank for a short while, I sold houses locally until I struck out on my own. I ran Orchard Recruitment in Enfield & Watford for a total of 35 years; closing the business and retraining at the age of 60 as an Estate Planner (covering Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney & Trusts). I find the work intellectually stimulating but also a real privilege to sit with so many people from different walks of life discussing how they wish to distribute their estate, how they can potentially protect their homes from care home costs and take the pragmatic steps of appointing Powers of Attorney before they lose capacity. This can be an empowering experience for many, making vital decisions whilst they still can. I occasionally find meetings quite saddening.

I am delighted that many younger clients engage me too. Those who have just got married, bought a property or who have had children.

Clearly for those who have been widowed or divorced, their wills need to reflect their change of circumstance and be current.

In my spare time, I sail during ‘the season’. I am a qualified yachtsman (taking after my late Dad I guess) and have sailed across the channel many times and have competed in the annual Round the Isle (of Wight) race.

Additional interests include gardening, reading and I’m a keen cinema goer. I have a half share of a CavaCockerPoo (a mutt!) with my Daughter.

My children were educated in Hertford and are now all grown-up (or so they tell me!)
